JOB SUMMARY

Working in conjunction with executive leadership, the Laboratory Manager provides planning, direction, organization, and leadership in the delivery of services within the department. Acts as a liaison between other hospital departments and the medical staff to assure effective communication in the planning of quality patient care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides planning, direction, organization, and leadership in the delivery of services within the Laboratory department and facilitates development of department goals and objectives. - - - -
  • Provides ancillary support and consultation to those who plan and administer patient care. - - - -
  • Evaluates department's human resource needs, including recruitment and retention of staff. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, evaluating, and disciplinary actions in conjunction with the supervisory staff. Educates and evaluates employee performance and competency. - - - -
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in laboratory science and provides and coordinates in-service training of employees. - - - -
  • Maintains fiscal responsibility for department. Develops and monitors the operating and capital budgets. - - - -
  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships with inter- and intra-departmental personnel, medical staff, community, patients, and family members. - - - -
  • Promotes Excellence Every Day. - - - -
  • Maintains departmental, dashboards, statistics, LEM, visibility wall, etc. - - - -
  • Performs patient and employee rounding. - - - -
  • Reviews Patient's Medical Records as needed. - - - -
  • Serves as the technical supervisor for the performance of highly complex testing. - - - -
  • Reviews and updates procedure manuals in accordance with CLIA regulations. Maintains CLIA standards. - - - -
  • Actively participates in hospital committees and quality improvement teams. - - - -
  • Enrolls in and supervises proficiency testing. - - - -
  • Establishes and maintains a quality control program to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance from specimen receipt through analysis and reporting of results. - - - -
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices. - - - -
  • Complies with the hospital's Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures. - - - -
