JOB SUMMARY
Working in conjunction with executive leadership, the Laboratory
Manager provides planning, direction, organization, and leadership
in the delivery of services within the department. Acts as a
liaison between other hospital departments and the medical staff to
assure effective communication in the planning of quality patient
care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Provides planning, direction, organization, and leadership in
the delivery of services within the Laboratory department and
facilitates development of department goals and objectives. - - -

- Provides ancillary support and consultation to those who plan
and administer patient care. - - - -
- Evaluates department's human resource needs, including
recruitment and retention of staff. Responsible for interviewing,
hiring, evaluating, and disciplinary actions in conjunction with
the supervisory staff. Educates and evaluates employee performance
and competency. - - - -
- Keeps abreast of current developments in laboratory science and
provides and coordinates in-service training of employees. - - -

- Maintains fiscal responsibility for department. Develops and
monitors the operating and capital budgets. - - - -
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships with
inter- and intra-departmental personnel, medical staff, community,
patients, and family members. - - - -
- Promotes Excellence Every Day. - - - -
- Maintains departmental, dashboards, statistics, LEM, visibility
wall, etc. - - - -
- Performs patient and employee rounding. - - - -
- Reviews Patient's Medical Records as needed. - - - -
- Serves as the technical supervisor for the performance of
highly complex testing. - - - -
- Reviews and updates procedure manuals in accordance with CLIA
regulations. Maintains CLIA standards. - - - -
- Actively participates in hospital committees and quality
improvement teams. - - - -
- Enrolls in and supervises proficiency testing. - - - -
- Establishes and maintains a quality control program to ensure
acceptable levels of analytic performance from specimen receipt
through analysis and reporting of results. - - - -
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care
and/or financial practices. - - - -
- Complies with the hospital's Corporate Compliance Program
including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and
regulations, and hospital policies and procedures. - - - -

- Bachelor's Degree in healthcare related field with Medical
Laboratory Science (MLS) or equivalent certification required. - -

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- The ability to maintain continuing education requirements and
all certifications and licenses as required (e.g. ACLS, PALS, CPI,

- Excellent interpersonal skills needed to work with staff,
physicians, patients, and families. - - - -
- Demonstrated ability to develop and support teamwork. - - -

- Able to prioritize multiple details simultaneously, and
consistently communicate positively while functioning under high

action with staff, physicians, patients, patients' families,

- Analytical and reasoning skills with a high level of mental

- Computer Knowledge including the ability to enter material into

machine to perform the duties of the position.
